earlier this morning i invited the wildroots wisdom council (including John Harris, Forrest Cuch, Bishop Phyllis Spiegel) to gather and offer lessons, inspiration, love, and light in this time of election. in no time, we were on a call. hearts, open; souls willing. amazing!! we did miss grannie j, who was with us in spirit.
it just so happens, those who serve on the council are also leaders in the Episcopal Church which just this weekend also experienced a change in leadership. this communal experience was carried into this call and into the hopes and prayer for the wider collective, so beautifully and so powerfully led by Great Spirit.
the parallels around change in leadership in both the church and the state is a potent mirror of these times and the roles we play. it was after all, the same “founding fathers” of The Episcopal Church and this nation who put forward the structure of each, with each aspiring to be democratic, in right relationship, with healthy inner/outer authority. these founding fathers who fled one nation, one religion with dreams for a better world. these founding fathers, whose pain spilled out in colonialism, capitalism, and patriarchy. these founding fathers, whose gifts and imagination dreamed another way. the gifts and wounds baked into the dna of both church and state. each, with wound around patriarchy and colonialism; each, with gift gleaned from these wounds around balance and harmony.
so, here we are. this wisdom council. a council devoted to healing and transformation, to the alchemizing of the darkness for light, for the “unbinding” of life, for liberation.
and we offer the beating of our hearts to you, as we join in this song of election and in the days and weeks that follow as we continue to tune our hearts and souls, together.
a special thanks to the Wisdom Council (including Dr. Jimi James who could not be with us in person) who showed up and gathered in no time! and with such open heartedness and generosity. also, special thanks to Terri Rivera Piatt, Sings with Ravens, for your voice and music, always. so good to be beating our hearts, soul drums together, in unison and harmony.
It was so good listening to the Wisdom Council tonight. I needed that. The drumming took me to where I needed to go. Thank you
